Males accounted for 82 percent (n=1,806) of detainees interviewed
in 2016. Most detainees who tested positive to any drug in 2016 were aged 36 years and over (31%; n=257).

In 2012, 35 percent (n=192) of non-Indigenous detainees tested positive to methamphetamine compared with 52 percent (n=374) in 2016. The proportion of Indigenous detainees who tested positive to methamphetamine also increased, from 24 percent (n=42) to 47 percent (n=160) over the same time period.
