Overview

The data contained in the data contained in Australia Crime: Facts and Figures is reproduced from crime and justice data collection series administered by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, and data published by the Productivity Commission.

Rates are calculated using the count for the reference period and equivalent ABS population estimate. Rates are calculated using the formula: (count/population)*100,000. Population estimates are derived from the ABS publications Quarterly Population Estimates (ERP), by State/Territory, Sex and Age, Australian Demographic Statistics and Estimates and Projections, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, 2001–2026.
